Narration for Folk Fest Students in Second, Fourth and Sixth Grades will be chosen to serve as narrators in our upcoming Folk Fest Performance on Friday, August 27th. We are giving interested students the opportunity to read the narration parts in their regularly scheduled music classroom times. Students should prepare for reading by focusing on the following:
The various narration lines are listed below by grade level. Any student that is interested in narrating must have their permission signed and return to their classroom teacher ASAP.
Second Grade: (Section One) Student One: There’s nothing like folk songs, to bring together different generations . . .
Student Two: . . . different cultures and different peoples.
Student Three: Folk songs tell stories about people and places.
Student Four: And they evolve and are adapted as they are passed from one generation to the next . . .
Student Five: . . . and from one culture to another.
Student Six: We invite you to come around the world with us in song!
Student Seven: And we will begin our journey in a very familiar place!
Sixth Grade (Section Two)
Student One: Another popular subject for folk songs is the water.
Student Two: There is a mystery and a magic surrounding the billowing oceans, rolling rivers and deep blue seas.
Student Three: We are in awe of the power that can take us to exotic places, or separate us from the ones we love.
Student Four: Come, sail with us, over the bounding main!
Fourth Grade (Section Three)
Student One: The subject and theme of folk songs often grew out of life itself.
Student Two: People sang of love . . . often lost love . . .
Student Three: . . . and sometimes lightened up the subject or concealed the truth with nonsense.
Student Four: They would lament about their vocation or their working conditions.
Student Five: Through their songs, they would mournfully croon over how they fought their battles, or watched their young men go off to war . . .
Student Six: . . . or they would gleefully reminisce about the places where they relaxed and regrouped.
Sixth Grade (Section Four) Student One: As folk songs have evolved over the years, with lyric and melodic changes as they were passed along . . .
Student Two: . . . so too have our lives been changed by the presence of music all around us.
Student Three: Music has always been, and always will be a means of sharing our common experiences . . .
Student Four: . . . making our pain more bearable – our joy more profound – our humanity more universal.
Student Five: And of course, no selection of folk songs would be complete without the lullaby, farewell, or goodnight!
